Lagos to Owerri Bus Fares: ₦30,250 to ₦56,300 Compared
In This Article

Anybody who has been buying bus tickets in Nigeria for the past few years already knows the pattern. Diesel is priced off the import market, spare parts for Hiace buses and luxury coaches come in by container, and tyres are quoted against the exchange rate before anybody converts to Naira. When the Naira moves, transport fares move with it — not immediately, but they move. That is the simple reason a Lagos to Owerri seat now opens at ₦30,250 instead of the figures people still quote from memory.

We pulled fares across five operators running the Lagos to Owerri route. Fares were checked on 18 October 2026, and on a route this busy they can shift, so treat these as your bargaining baseline rather than gospel.

Key Insight

GIG Mobility has both the cheapest seat on this route (₦30,250) and the most expensive one (₦56,300). The operator you pick matters less than the class of bus you pick within that operator.

The cheapest ticket and the dearest starting fare

GIG Mobility opens at ₦30,250. That is the floor for Lagos to Owerri across all five operators we compared. At the other end, ABC Transport starts at ₦41,000 — and that is also where ABC ends, because they have exactly one fare on this route. The gap between the cheapest starting fare and the dearest starting fare is ₦10,750.

₦10,750 is not small money. That is a full tank of fuel for a small car, or your transport within Owerri for the whole week you are visiting. But before you jump at the lowest number, understand what sits between those two figures.

Libra Motors comes in second cheapest at ₦31,500, barely ₦1,250 above GIG's floor. GUO Transport starts at ₦35,000. Chisco Transport starts at ₦38,000. Then ABC at ₦41,000.

What the extra money actually buys

Three things, based on the data: the type of bus you sit in, how much choice you have over departure time, and how many terminals you can board from.

1. Bus type

GIG Mobility runs the widest spread — Hiace, Jet Mover, Hiace X and Premium. Thirteen different fares, from ₦30,250 up to ₦56,300. That ₦26,050 internal spread is the single biggest price range of any operator here, and it exists because you are choosing between very different vehicles under one brand. The ₦30,250 ticket and the ₦56,300 ticket are not the same product.

Libra Motors runs only Luxury Bus, with two fares: ₦31,500 and ₦35,000. Simple. ABC Transport runs only Sprinter Service at a flat ₦41,000 — no decisions to make. Chisco runs Executive Coach with four fares from ₦38,000 to ₦44,650. GUO mixes Luxury and Hiace across ₦35,000, ₦43,500 and ₦44,000.

2. Departure choice

This is where the operators split sharply. GIG Mobility has eight departure slots: 06:00, 06:05, 06:30, 06:45, 07:00, 07:15, 07:30 and then 19:00. Six of those are packed into ninety minutes of the morning — if you miss the 06:00, there is another bus minutes later.

Chisco is the opposite. First departure 06:00, last departure 07:00. Three slots, all morning. Miss the 07:00 Chisco bus and your day is finished — you are rebooking for tomorrow. ABC Transport is even tighter: one departure, 06:30. That is the whole schedule.

Libra Motors runs the opposite shift entirely. First departure 17:00, last departure 20:00, with 18:00 and 19:00 in between. Every single Libra bus on this route is an evening departure, which means you are travelling through the night and arriving in Owerri without burning a working day in Lagos. Some people love that. If you are the type who cannot sleep sitting up, you will not love it.

GUO splits the difference: 06:00 and 07:00 in the morning, 18:00 and 18:30 in the evening.

3. Boarding terminal

Where you live in Lagos should influence this decision more than most people allow.

GIG Mobility boards at five points: Oyingbo (Iddo), Jibowu, Iyana Ipaja, Cele/Okota and Yaba. That is mainland coverage from Ipaja all the way to Yaba. Libra Motors also boards at five — Okota, Ijesha, Alaba, Mazamaza-Volks and Ajah — which is the only spread on this list that reaches both the Okota axis and Ajah.

GUO Transport boards at Iba, Alaba and Maza Maza, so it is built around the Lagos–Badagry corridor. Chisco boards at Maza-Maza Local, Empire, Okota and Jibowu. ABC Transport boards at Ajah only.

If you stay in Lekki or Ajah, ABC's ₦41,000 single-terminal, single-departure arrangement suddenly looks less expensive — you are not paying ₦8,000 in Bolt fares to cross to Jibowu at 5am. Libra also reaches Ajah. Nobody else on this list does.

Who should pick which operator

Match the operator to your situation

  • Lowest possible fare: GIG Mobility at ₦30,250. But book early and confirm which bus type that fare attaches to — GIG's fares climb all the way to ₦56,300.
  • You want to travel in the evening: Libra Motors. All four departures (17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00) are evening, from ₦31,500. GIG's 19:00 slot and GUO's 18:00/18:30 are the only other evening options.
  • You live on the Island or Ajah side: ABC Transport (₦41,000, Ajah) or Libra Motors (from ₦31,500, Ajah among five terminals).
  • You live around Iba, Alaba or Maza Maza: GUO Transport from ₦35,000, with both morning and evening options.
  • You want a single, no-stress decision: ABC Transport. One fare, one bus type, one departure, one terminal. Nothing to compare.
  • You overslept: GIG Mobility. Six morning slots between 06:00 and 07:30 means a missed bus is not a cancelled trip.

One scheduling point worth sitting with: Chisco's last bus leaves at 07:00 and ABC's only bus leaves at 06:30. These are early-morning-only services. You need to be at the terminal well before those times, which for most Lagos addresses means leaving home in darkness. Plan your ride to the terminal the night before — that part of the journey catches more people than the bus itself.

General travel sense

Five things, every trip

  • Book ahead rather than walking in — the cheapest fare tier usually sells out first.
  • Keep your phone charged and carry a power bank; long trips drain batteries fast.
  • Travel light on valuables and keep your bag within sight or reach.
  • Tell one person your operator, departure time and boarding terminal.
  • Keep a little cash for terminal-to-destination transport at the other end.

The verdict

GIG Mobility is the correct starting point for most travellers on this route — ₦30,250 floor, eight departures, five terminals. But do not assume the GIG badge means the cheap fare. Their ₦56,300 Premium seat costs ₦15,300 more than ABC's entire ticket.

If you are an evening traveller, Libra Motors at ₦31,500 is a sharp deal that almost nobody talks about. And if you live anywhere near Ajah, stop converting your door-to-terminal cost into free money — factor it in, and the ranking changes.

Whatever you choose, check the live fares on CheckPrice.ng before you pay. Ten thousand Naira is ten thousand Naira.
